CARSP Moves Closer to Launch as Leaders Advance Plans to Strengthen Africa's Regulatory Science Workforce
The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) convened the Interim Executive Committee meeting in Lusaka, Zambia, marking a decisive step towards operationalising the College of African Regulatory Science Professionals (CARSP).
Africa's ambitions to strengthen pharmaceutical manufacturing, expand regulatory harmonisation, and improve access to safe, effective and quality-assured medical products depend on one critical factor: a skilled and sustainable regulatory science workforce.
To help address this need, the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) is advancing the establishment of the College of African Regulatory Science Professionals (CARSP), a continental professional body designed to strengthen regulatory science capacity, promote professional excellence, and support the development of Africa's health product ecosystem.
CARSP seeks to provide a structured platform for professional development, certification, mentorship, knowledge exchange, and leadership in regulatory science across the continent — aligned with the aspirations of Agenda 2063 and complementary to the work of the African Medicines Agency (AMA).
Progress Towards Establishment
Since its introduction at the Sixth Scientific Conference on Medical Products Regulation in Africa (SCoMRA), significant progress has been made towards establishing the College.
